SCSE 2013 Start List Announced
The Santa Cruz Super Enduro course consists of technically challenging terrain: root sections, rock sections, switchbacks, ruts, exposed sections, high-speed, tight, and steep sections—and any combination of the above. Therefore, in order to compete in the SCSE you MUST be able to ride technically challenging trails with confidence. You must also bring a suitable bike, e.g. more all-mountain than cross-country or downhill. Due to the physical nature of the race, you must also be comfortable climbing 5,000+ vertical feet and covering 25+ miles of variable terrain during the course of the race.
The SCSE is modeled on the Italian Superenduro race format popular in Europe. Racers will descend a closed course in 30 second intervals, completing transfer climbs and timed downhill special stages, with the score being the cumulative time of the special stage timed downhills. The transfer climbs do not count toward your score; however, they do need to be completed within a certain time frame and failure to do so will result in a time penalty or possible disqualification.
The field will be split into groups based on category with the more experienced categories starting first. This will ensure the best flow on the trails and minimize passing on the timed sections.
